Without A Trace
Last month I wrote an entry regarding the disproportionate avalanche of publicity that surrounds White women when they've disappeared in contrast to the miniscule face time awarded to minorities who turn up missing. 15 months after she was last seen in May 2004, Spartanburg, South Carolina native Tamika Huston finally has her case resusitated by a national news outlet when Dateline NBC shines a light on a story that's been virtually ignored by the same media outfits that make certain the Natalee Holloways, Elizabeth Smarts and JonBenet Ramseys of the world become household names.Reporter Josh Mankiewicz attempts to ask the question other TV division heads have all shied away from answering. Are only Caucasian females worthy of attention in a time of abduction? It's a small sliver of a jagged little pill that begins with r and ends with e that always seems to make mainstream America squirm in their seats since it's not a pleasant subject with a sitcom ending.
The examination of silence surrounding the faces of color who go unnoticed on your local telecasts airs tomorrow night on NBC at 8:00 p.m. EST.

I read something about this upcoming Dateline episode earlier. Such an awful shame that if you're a black female and your name isn't Oprah, Beyonce, Venue, Serena, or Condolucifer that you'll be hard pressed to get some press if you're missing.
